Working alongside Keltbray, our team brought construction knowledge from day one on a scheme that involved transforming the former Department of Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy headquarters into a high-sustainability mixed-use building.
Key highlights from the project include:
- Managing demolition on a constrained central London site, coordinating around public footpaths, road closures and a geotechnically sensitive heritage location
- Principal engineer Sean Starkey led the temporary works design, developing a 3D ground model and dewatering strategy that eliminated the need for extensive temporary propping, reducing programme time and carbon footprint
- Navigating complex ground conditions including a persistently high water table and variable subsurface geology
- Pioneering a "notching" technique to enable early piling around existing structural cores while demolition continued above
