TRAINING SCHEMES

TRAINING SCHEMES
Learning is a lifetime activity going way beyond university teaching. Choosing a career with us will extend your capability and help you to develop into a competent and successful engineer able to exercise good judgement and take responsibility for managing other staff.

Wentworth's approved graduate training scheme accredited by the Institution of Civil Engineers includes a site placement within Keltbray Group from 6-18 months. Every graduate joins our ICE-accredited training scheme, working toward chartered status with structured support and on-site project experience to successfully achieve chartered status within 3–5 years of joining.

What you get:

  • delegated Engineer and ICE-appointed Supervising Civil Engineer supporting your development
  • quarterly reviews to track progress and plan your next steps
  • experience across civil engineering, structures, and geotechnics
  • exposure to different teams, projects, and engineering challenges

Our managing director is an ICE reviewer, and our supervising civil engineer leads the training scheme, so you will be learning from people who understand the qualification process.

“It's been a privilege to work at Wentworth, and I'm proud of the work we have produced, in particular on the Elizabeth Line and Tideway. I'd like to thank you all for making Wentworth such a supportive, welcoming and enjoyable place to work. I've made some great friends in my time in Esher and in the new Bristol office.”

We provide summer placements and year-long placements for undergraduates. From the very start you will be immersed in a range of complex real-world project design challenges which will build on your existing knowledge to help solve real life problems.

What you will do:

  • work on exciting projects with turnarounds from days to weeks
  • build on your university knowledge to solve practical problems
  • shadow site engineers to see designs being constructed
  • be encouraged to ask questions, discuss ideas, and develop your engineering judgment.

You will strengthen your technical skills through hands-on design work and delivery, while gaining a practical understanding of technical construction design processes.

Alongside your technical development there will be natural development of soft skills such as time management, flexibility, decision making and report writing; all these are invaluable skills for a lifetime career in engineering.
“Since joining I have gained some of the most varied and invaluable experience to date. I have worked on site for 18 months for Keltbray as a contract engineer with a great deal of responsibility and I am now working with Wentworth developing my design skills. I love the difference in the work involved and am continuing to learn here key engineering concepts in both the Structures and the Geotechnics sectors.”
