INVESTIGATION AND TESTING

Wentworth Technical Services offers a comprehensive range of on-site surveys and testing, including drone-based dimensional surveys, non-intrusive rebar scanning, load testing, and geotechnical assessments.

Our investigations concentrate on understanding the existing structural form, condition, and behaviour. We collaborate with designers, contractors, and asset owners to define the right level of investigation and testing for the project at hand. We plan surveys and tests to minimise disruption whilst providing meaningful results. Clear findings reports allow design teams to make informed decisions with confidence.

Surveys, scanning, and intrusive investigation

Surveys, scanning, and intrusive investigation
We use a combination of non-intrusive and intrusive techniques to record existing construction and assess the condition. This includes drone-based dimensional surveys, Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR), such as our work at 1 Victoria Street, London, and ferro scanning to identify reinforcement and steel sections, as well as detailed recording of existing connections and details.
Where required, intrusive investigations are undertaken, including core drilling, cold cutting, and material sampling, supported by laboratory testing to establish material properties and deterioration mechanisms.

Corrosion assessment and post-tensioned structures
Our team carries out corrosion assessments to establish the root cause and define appropriate remedial strategies. For post-tensioned structures, we locate tendons using ferro scanning, ground-penetrating radar, and ultrasonic testing, then carefully expose them to assess condition, pre-stress levels, and any potential reduction in capacity.

Structural and geotechnical testing
Structural testing enables us to understand how structures and individual elements perform in practice. Testing includes floor load capacity, lift beam, balcony and balustrades, anchor and fixing, and geotechnical testing. The test results verify the capacity and behaviour of structures and structural elements, helping inform design decisions and confirming structural performance.
