GEOTECHNICAL ENGINEERING
Ground conditions are never exactly what you expect. We design technical solutions that work with this uncertainty by integrating geotechnical thinking with construction methodology to deliver cost-effective designs that realistically manage risk.
Understanding what's actually there versus what's been assumed is the difference between over-designed foundations and efficient solutions. We specify, supervise, and interpret ground investigations that give you the information you need to make confident design decisions.
Challenging ground conditions are when we're at our best. Wentworth’s engineers design specialist foundations, including piled rafts and embedded retaining walls.

Solving complex ground conditions
Solving complex ground conditionsWe develop basement construction solutions for sites with complex geometry and constraints, including working platforms, propping systems, king posts, plunge columns, thrust blocks, tie-backs and bespoke solutions adjusted to specific site requirements. We are adept at assessing the impacts of ground movement on services, underground structures, and Network Rail and Transport for London (TfL) assets.
Integrating temporary and permanent geotechnical works
When we design, we look to integrate temporary works thinking into permanent solutions from the start. For our foundation designs, we consider the piling methodology and installation sequence. When our engineers design basement retentions, we're considering the construction platform requirements and propping installation. When we assess settlements, we're thinking about construction phasing and temporary loading conditions. This integration saves time and money, as we're looking forward and considering the whole construction process as part of our work. The earlier you bring us in, the more of these efficiencies we can build into the solution.
