Sean Starkey, Lead Engineer at Wentworth on the Poultry Market, reflected on some of the challenges he faced designing the project schemes:
"Adding to the complexity, these schemes had to coordinate with the proposed permanent concrete and steelwork schemes. This often resulted in innovative schemes, such as the proprietary tower scheme which could only be positioned within the confined space of the cores to maintain lateral stability and vertical load transfer throughout the required modifications."
To delve deeper into the complexities and triumphs of this ambitious project, check out the full feature in New Civil Engineer, in which Wentworth & Keltbray, main contractor SRM, and the client London Museum discuss how the project teams have come together to breathe new life into these iconic spaces.
